Assembling Your New Office Chair Properly
Assembling a new office chair properly is essential for ensuring comfort, functionality, and longevity. Whether you have a basic task chair or a high-end ergonomic model, following these steps will help you set up your Herman Miller office chairs correctly:
Unpack and check components:
Start by unpacking all parts and checking them against the assembly instructions to ensure everything is included. You should have the base, casters, gas lift cylinder, seat, backrest, armrests, and any screws or bolts. If any parts are missing or damaged, contact the manufacturer before proceeding.
Attach the casters:
Begin by attaching the casters to the base. Turn the base upside down and firmly push the casters into the holes at the end of each leg. You may need to use some force to ensure they are securely in place. Once all casters are attached, flip the base back to its upright position.
Install the gas lift cylinder:
Place the gas lift cylinder into the center hole of the base. Ensure it is fully inserted and secure. Some models may have a cover or sleeve to place over the gas lift for aesthetic purposes; if so, install it now.
Secure the seat mechanism:
Locate the seat mechanism (often called the tilt mechanism) and align it with the pre-drilled holes on the underside of the seat. Using the provided screws or bolts, attach the mechanism to the seat. Tighten the screws securely; ensuring the mechanism is firmly in place.
Attach the seat to the gas lift cylinder:
With the seat mechanism attached, position the seat on top of the gas lift cylinder. Ensure the cylinder fits into the hole in the center of the seat mechanism. Apply gentle pressure to secure the seat onto the cylinder.
Attach the backrest:
Align the backrest with the mounting brackets on the seat mechanism. Depending on the design, you may need to insert screws or slide the backrest into place. Secure the backrest firmly, ensuring it is aligned and tightened correctly.
Install the armrests:
If your chair includes armrests, attach them to the sides of the seat. Align the armrests with the pre-drilled holes and use the provided screws or bolts to secure them. Ensure they are attached tightly and at the correct height.
